What is a shuffle?
by Geoff on Jul.30, 2009, under Uncategorized
Don’t know how this whole thing started but I woke up thinking I really wanted to learn the “shuffle” beat from Rosanna performed by TOTO and played by the late Jeff Porcaro. So I youtubed it and found Jeff Porcaro breaking it down. You can see the video here:
Jeff Porcaro breaking down the Rosanna shuffle.
Jeff talked about his influences being John Bonham and Bernard Purdie. So I did a little more digging and found this video. Purdie Shuffle. Man would I love to spend time with this guy. I love his feel for the instrument and his touch. I know it’s a little dorky but I got choked up by watching this video. It touched me.
So hopefully tonight when I get home I’ll work on the Purdie shuffle and the Rosanna Shuffle.
Giving a shout out.

A poem I wrote about my mom after she passed.
by Geoff on Nov.06, 2007, under Uncategorized
she awakens to the site of her savior.
Her breath now complete.
Only you Lord have I longed for. My life I have laid down for you.
Wow, it’s great to see you.
How I’ve waited for this moment.
To see your face and to feel you so close.
Your love oh Lord is amazing.
You’re more beautiful then I could have ever imagined.
Lord, thanks for all you’ve done.
I knew you were there when I was scared.
I knew you were with me when I almost died.
As He wraps her in His loving arms she melts into Him.
How long she’s waited for this moment.
The warmth of his touch.
The beat of his heart.
The strength of His embrace.
The light that shines forth from Him.
I found this journal entry from 1994.

It fits on one page with the rest unfilled. Here goes.
I will be your thoughts when you’re thoughtless
I will be your eyes when you’re blinded
I will be your soul when you feel empty
I will be there for you
I will hold you in my arms when you’re scared
I will fill your days with happiness and love
I will fill your nights with peace and serenity
I will be there for you
I will fulfill your dreams and wants
I will be your sustenance when you’re hungry
I will love you with all my heart
I will be there for you
Psalm 91

Psalm 91
1-13You who sit down in the High God’s presence, spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow,
Say this: “God, you’re my refuge.
I trust in you and I’m safe!”
That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps,
shields you from deadly hazards.
His huge outstretched arms protect you—
under them you’re perfectly safe;
his arms fend off all harm.
Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night,
not flying arrows in the day,
Not disease that prowls through the darkness,
not disaster that erupts at high noon.
Even though others succumb all around,
drop like flies right and left,
no harm will even graze you.
You’ll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance,
watch the wicked turn into corpses.
Yes, because God’s your refuge,
the High God your very own home,
Evil can’t get close to you,
harm can’t get through the door.
He ordered his angels
to guard you wherever you go.
If you stumble, they’ll catch you;
their job is to keep you from falling.
You’ll walk unharmed among lions and snakes,
and kick young lions and serpents from the path.
14-16 “If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says God,
“I’ll get you out of any trouble.
I’ll give you the best of care
if you’ll only get to know and trust me.
Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times;
I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party.
I’ll give you a long life,
give you a long drink of salvation!”
Psalm 19:11-14

Man, I absolutely love this Pslam as a whole but this part specifically always hits me.
There’s more: God’s Word warns us of danger
and directs us to hidden treasure.
Otherwise how will we find our way?
Or know when we play the fool?
Clean the slate, God, so we can start the day fresh!
Keep me from stupid sins,
from thinking I can take over your work;
Then I can start this day sun-washed,
scrubbed clean of the grime of sin.
These are the words in my mouth;
these are what I chew on and pray.
Accept them when I place them
on the morning altar,
O God, my Altar-Rock,
God, Priest-of-My-Altar.
Simply perfect…
If everyone could see themselves.

The thought I had today is that waht if we had this flying orb that followed us around every second of the day taking pictures of us. This orb would see us drive, eat, sleep, get angry, yell, scream, etc. The interesting part would be sitting down at the end of the day and being forced to watch what you did that day. What would your day look like? What would you change? What did you see? Who did you see?
